Below is the statement sent to us by an activist from ANSWER:
On June 26, the Stop War on Iran Campaign issued a call for emergency actions on August 2 to stop the Bush Administration’s drive towards an attack against Iran.
We have heard back from activists and organizers who are planning protests, rallies, and pickets in more than 50 cities, including a major demonstration in New York City in Times Square and a demonstration in front of the White House in Washington.
We are working on compiling a list of the growing number of local actions now, which we will have online soon at:
http://stopwaroniran.org/aug22008orgcents.shtml
It is urgent that we act now, and that we make every possible effort to stop a war against Iran.

WCW and other organizations are calling for FREEZE ACTIONS on this day, the anniversary of the U.S. dropping the Atom Bomb on Hiroshima, Japan in 1945 killing over 140,000 people within 4 months. For more information go to:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atomic_bombings_of_Hiroshima_and_Nagasaki
Participants of the FREEZE ACTION gather in a public place (transportation hub, park, downtown crossroads) where there are a lot of pedestrians. At a pre-determined time, with a designated signal, they "freeze" in place for 5 or 10 minutes. No talking, no interaction, just statues frozen in place. A whistle is blown to end the action. Often followed by people breaking into chants, such as "No Attack on Iran!"
This is not a protest march with banners and placards but flyers are good for handing out afterwards. Let's make this happen in hundreds of places to mark Hiroshima Day.

August 15, 2008 7 pm and August 16, 5:30 pm -BATTLE FOR HADITHA- at the
Cinematheque. The events that sparked the 11/05 massacre of 24 Iraqi men,
women, and children (most of them noncombatants) by U.S. Marines in Haditha are
re-enacted in this searing but humanistic new movie by veteran Brit
documentarian Nick Broomfield (Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer, Kurt
& Courtney, Biggie & Tupac). But this film is a dramatic reenactment
and not a
documentary; it follows a Marine platoon, Sunni insurgents, and an Iraqi family
during the 24 hours leading up to the tragedy. “Straddles the line between
blistering exposé and Spielbergian heart-tugger.” –Village Voice. “A
hell of a picture.” –New York Magazine. Cleveland premiere. 35mm. 97 min.

Chicago 1:00PM -- Come and Flyer the Air and Water Show
Over one million people come to the Air & Water Show each day. This show is the largest military commercial to promote war, huge military budgets and recruitment. There is an insanity to it all because spectators are drawn to the "wonder" of high tech weaponry.
THIS IS NOT FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT.
We will join 8th Day Center for Justice and other anti-war activists to banner and leaflet participants as they stream across the pedestrian bridge by the tens of thousands, a perfect audience. We will call for end to war crimes and the
recruitment of youth to commit them, no matter who is in the White House or running Congress!
Some people say recruiters have a "right" to do their Business. World Can't Wait says the people in Iraq have the right to be free from occupation.
SHUT DOWN MILITARY RECRUITERS!

No Ice Raids! No Militarization of the Border: No Detentions! No Human Being is Illegal!
March Step-off at 9am
2855 W. Howard PL. (Rude Park) Rally to follow @ La Alma /Lincoln Park (W. 12th Ave and Mariposa St)
World Can’t Wait will be marching to demand an immediate end to the Gestapo-style ICE raids on immigrants and families that create a climate of terror in immigrant communities and workplaces all over the country. We demand an end to the terrorizing and the criminalization of a whole people! No human being is illegal! As new detention facilities which can house hundreds of thousands are constructed within U.S. borders, as walls go up between the US and Mexico, as the border is patrolled by this government in collaboration with armed vigilante groups who hunt migrants down with viciousness; we stand and say no! No militarization of the border! No detentions! No ICE raids! Bring this to a halt!
